The invention relates to a cooling element consisting of cast copper, in particular for use in walls of highly thermally loaded smelting and reduction furnaces, comprising coolant channels arranged in the interior of the cooling element and consisting of copper pipes which are especially coated galvanically or chemically on both sides prior to being encapsulated with liquid copper, said copper pipes allowing a water-free cooling using low-melting organic salt melts and protecting the cooling element from corrosion damage. The invention further relates to a method for producing a cooling element, the interior of which is provided with copper channels made of copper pipes, in particular for use in ceilings and/or walls of highly thermally loaded smelting and reduction furnaces, having the following steps: a) producing the pipe bundle including all desired arcs, lines, and connections, b) pretreating and chemically coating the inner face of the pipes of the pipe bundle, c) pretreating and galvanically coating the outer face of the pipes of the pipe bundle, d) placing the pipe bundle into the casting mold and encapsulating the pipe bundle with molten copper or a copper alloy within the casting mold while simultaneously cooling the pipe inner walls, preferably in a water-free manner, using low-melting organic salt melts, and e) cooling the copper melt under defined cooling gradients and for defined cooling times in order to achieve specific material properties. |
