PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a cathode whose cathode active material (active material layer) has improved electron conductivity in an overcharged state and a method for manufacturing the cathode, and further provide a nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery, provided with a CID and gas generation additive, the nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery heightening an oxidation decomposition reaction of the additive to increase the generated amount of gas.SOLUTION: The cathode comprises: a cathode active material layer which contains a cathode active material; a conductive material; and a binder, the cathode active material having a hole transport material disposed on at least part of its surface. The nonaqueous electrolyte secondary battery includes the cathode and a current cutoff mechanism which cuts off a conductive path between the cathode and an anode depending on the internal pressure of the battery, in which the nonaqueous electrolyte contains gas generation additive having the function to generate gas by its oxidative decomposition at the cathode. The internal pressure of the battery is heightened by a gas generated by the gas generation additive, causing the current cutoff mechanism to break the conductive path. |
