The present invention relates to a positive electrode active material for a lithium secondary battery and a method for manufacturing the same. Provided is the positive electrode active material comprising a lithium-metal oxide, wherein a metal of the lithium-metal oxide includes manganese (Mn), and a manganese-free section in which a content of manganese (Mn) is equal to or lower than 1 weight% with respect to a total manganese (Mn) content is included between a center portion and surface portion of each particle of the positive active material. Accordingly, a rapid reduction in concentration of the manganese inside the active material can be effectively controlled, and thus high-temperature stability can be considerably improved when the positive electrode active material is applied to a battery, thereby overcoming a problem of a reduction in the capacity of the battery. |
