An objective of the present invention is to provide a device and a method for estimating a user activity, which use motion sensor data acquired from a wearable device to automatically estimate a user activity and provide information about the estimated user activity. According to an embodiment of the present invention, the method for estimating a user activity comprises: a step of acquiring motion sensor data from a motion sensor of a wearable device during a prescribed period of time; a step of decomposing the motion sensor data into one or more time intervals to generate a plurality of decomposed motion sensor data; a step of extracting motion features for the decomposed motion sensor data; a step of classifying the motion features based on a predetermined classification algorithm and determining user activities corresponding to the motion features based on classification results; and a step of estimating a final user activity based on the determined user activities.
