A tag 301 for tracking an asset in a postal system comprises a communication unit 305 configured to receive a signal representative of postal information and an information provisioning unit configured to make the postal information available to a postal service so as to facilitate transportation of the tag by said postal service. The tag may further comprise a location unit 311 configured to gather data indicative of the location of the tag, which may be transmitted to a tracking apparatus at periodic intervals which shorten the closer the tag is to its destination. The information provisioning unit may comprise a display 303 such as an e-ink display. The tag may comprise a user interface 302 for initiating transmission of the location signal. Also envisaged is an apparatus comprising a location unit to determine the location of the tag and a provisioning unit configured to transmit postal information dependent on the location of the tag. Independent claims to a tags characterised by the inclusion of sensors having update intervals dependent on location and a wireless control signal respectively are also included. |
