[Class 100 (iv)] A paper feeding device which is especially applicable for statistical or accounting machines of the kind comprising a driven rotary member 11, which is operated by the spacing mechanism of the printing-device which prints the tabulated items and is geared to a feed roller which advances the paper to the platen of the machine, and a driving member 10 which is mounted on the same axis as the driven member 11, and takes up the drive of the member 11 and the paper feed roll after the total item is printed so as to bring a new form into printing position, is constructed so that, should all the items not be printable on one form, a control member causes the driving member to advance a new form to such a position that the spaces for addresses &c. at the head of the new form are skipped so that a continuation of the items may be made in correct position on the second form. The driving-member 10 is driven by a reciprocating pair of racks 12, 13, Fig. 1 (not shown), operating through ratchets] to drive the member 10 unidirectionally to a predetermined extent when a clutch is thrown in, this mechanism being constructed as described in Specification 441,492. The paper feed roller which is geared to the member 11 is operated from the spacing- mechanism of the typewriter which is operated from an oscillating shaft 7, Fig. 5, which also operates by a pin-and-slot connection a link 113 which operates the clutch mechanism for controlling the operation of the driving- member 10, and this clutch is thrown in by the total-printing operation to cause rotation of the member 10 after the member 11 has advanced a number of steps depending upon the number of items printed. When the items can be printed on one form, motion is transmitted to the member 11 by means of a lug 67 on a lever 66 which is pivoted to the member 10 and engages a lug 76 on the member 11 and through this rotates the paper-feed wheel so as to bring the new form into position to receive an impression of the name and address &c. of a client. If, however, the items are not finished on one form, the member 11 receives an additional motion as the printing of the last line of a form causes a stud 81 on a trip lever 77 to actuate a latching-lever 72 and so release the lever 66 which under spring action rotates to move the pin 67 into the path of an adjustable stop 135 which is set so that the pin engages it in advance of the time at which the pin 67 engages the stop 26, so that a larger rotation is given to the member 11 and consequently to the feed roller, so that the space for printing the address &c. is skipped and items can be continued on the first line of a succeeding form which enables the items to be completed. The movement of the latching- lever 72 also actuates a second latching-lever 88 having a tip 91 which normally restrains the movement of a spring-actuated rod 96. The rod 96 when released actuates a bellcrank lever 98, Fig. 3, which moves clockwise and depresses a control link 100, which causes release of latch mechanism normally restraining a link 113 from causing actuation of the clutch mechanism, and the clutch is thus operated to cause rotation of the member 10. Associated with the clutch mechanism is a latch device operated by an arm 158, Fig. 5, of the total-printing mechanism, which prevents operation of the means for giving the paper an extra feed-motion in the case where the total is printed on the last line of a form. In a modification only one driven stop on the member 11 may be used, and it is engaged by either a fixed stop or a movable stop carried by a pivoted arm which is moved so as to cause the movable stop to engage the drivenstop in advance of the fixed driving-stop. In a further form similar to this the pivoted driving- stop engages a different driven-stop which is circumferentially adjustable to enable the amount of skip feed to be adjusted.
