[Class 140] To a non-fibrous cellulosic film or sheet is applied a dispersion of a partially condensed melamine-formaldehyde resin, such as trimethylol melamine resin, in a non-basic watersoluble dihydric or trihydric alcohol, such as ethylene glycol or glycerol, together with hydroxy acetic in the proportion of at least 0.4 part of acid per 1 part of resin. The film is then heated to harden the resin and coated with a moisture-proofing and heat sealable coating. The application of the resin dispersion may be done by dipping, immersing, brushing or rolling and may be applied to the cellulosic sheet in gel form using an aqueous bath for the application of the resin. The aftercoating may comprise a cellulose ether or ester or nitrocellulose and paraffin wax, dibutyl phthalate, gum dammar, ethyl alcohol, acetone, water, ethyl acetate and toluene. Specifications 584,217 and 593,946, [Group IV], are referred to. |
