594,087. Rotary intaglio-printing-machines. HOE & CO., Ltd., R., and BENNISON, W. E. Dec. 19, 1944, No. 25435. [Class 100 (ii)] Inking-apparatus.-A rotary intaglio webprinting machine comprises a doctor blade 4 carried by a holder 10 supported by pairs of pivoted arms 20, 21, of different effective lengths and with the shorter arm 21 remote from a printing-cylinder 1 and so disposed as to rock the holder 10 about the longer arm 20 to constrain the holder in moving away from the cylinder 1 to carry the tip of the blade in a direction to clear the path of a web W as it passes to the cylinder. The holder 10 is carried by arms 17 supported by the arms 20, 21, which are pivoted at 22, 23, the central arm having a handle 21<1> whereby the holder can be moved away from the cylinder for cleaning &c. against the action of a coil spring on the shaft 22, the tip of the blade moving in a path L whereby damage to the web is avoided. A pawl 30 on the link 21 engaging a stationary disc 32 retains the holder in the withdrawn position, and, on release, engages a notch 33 to stop the blade when near the cylinder, so as to prevent damage by impact : the pawl has to be released to allow the final movement. The linkage is carried by a reciprocatable slide 30 whereby the blade may be reciprocated longitudinally. The holder 10 is capable of angular adjustment about a pivot 13 on arcuate slides 11 adjustable along arcuate guides 12 concentric with the cylinder 1, by means of a rack 15 and pinion 14. Pawls 16 prevent the slides from dropping down the guides; and bolts 16<1> are provided for locking the slides in adjusted positions. Each slide is independently adjustable so that the blade 4 can be adjusted at separate zones along its length. The side wall 7 of an ink fountain 3 extends upwardly and carries a pivoted flap 8 bearing against a plate 9 clamping the blade 4 in its holder. The wall 7 is adjustable by means of a rack 39 and pinion 39 to follow the peripheral adjustment of the doctor. The blade holder is in two parts 10<1>, 10<2>, Fig. 6, normally separated by a spring 43 and clamped together by a jaw 42 operated by a screw 44. Fig. 7 (not shown) shows an alternative construction in 'which the jaw slides in a bore in the member 10<2> and is screwed to receive a clamping-nut. Specification 532,875 is referred to. |
