A cleaning apparatus such as a dishwasher comprises a cleaning tank (110, fig 1b) for immersing kitchen articles, the tank (110, fig 1b) having a generally rectangular configuration having two opposing major sides and two opposing minor sides, an openable and closable lid (120, fig 1a), the lid (120, fig 1a) being pivotably openable and closable from one of the minor sides of the tank (110, fig 1b) so as to allow access to the tank (110, fig 1b) and to cover the tank (110, fig 1b) in use, a retaining device (150, fig 4a) positioned within the tank (110, fig 1b) in use and configured to support kitchen articles in immersion within the tank (110, fig 1b) and a lifting mechanism for lifting and lowering the retaining device (150, fig 4a), the lifting mechanism coupled or connected between the lid (120, fig 1a) and retaining device (150, fig 4a) such that as lid (120, fig 1a) is openable and closable, the retaining device (150, fig 4a) raises and lowers the within the cleaning tank (110, fig 1b), respectively. Also disclosed is a cleaning apparatus such as a dishwasher that includes an extendable handle portion 130. |
