PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide electromagnetic wave detection method and device, which enable highly sensitive detection of electromagnetic waves such as THz light, with a simple configuration.SOLUTION: An electromagnetic wave detection method, for detecting electromagnetic waves by an EO sampling method using an electro-optical effect, includes: causing sampling light radiated from sampling-light radiation means to enter a nonlinear optical crystal; converging a detection target electromagnetic wave radiated from electromagnetic wave radiation means to enhance it; causing the enhanced electromagnetic wave to enter the nonlinear optical crystal at a Cerenkov phase-matching angle relative to the optical axis of the sampling light; and detecting, using a heterodyne detection method or a homodyne detection method, a sum frequency component or a differential frequency component output after being produced by combining the electromagnetic wave and the sampling light that are phase-matched. |
