594,889. Extrusion machines. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. Oct. 9, 1944, No. 19393. Convention date, June 19. [Class 87 (ii)]. An extrusion apparatus for forming a composite strip of plastic material embodying portions having different physical characteristics comprises two passages through which two batches of material are fed to a common outlet 30 by screws 5, 6, each passage being formed by a plane die head surface 22 or 25 and a cavity 28 or 29 formed in a block 27. This block may be replaced by another block having different cavities, in which case the die block 31 also must be changed. The die block is held in position by two bell crank levers 44 pivoted at 45 and moved to and from the die block by pneumatic pistons 50 working in cylinders 51 pivoted at 54 on the apparatus. The composite strip, which may be of rubber and suitable for use in making tyres, drops from the outlet 30 to a conveyer and is then conveyed through a cooling tank. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states also that the invention may be applied to a single-batch-feeding apparatus and that the two batches of material may be of the same compound. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
