[Class 80(iv)] In an envelope making machine wherein the folded and gummed envelopes are successively deposited by a hinged trap-door 4 from a folding box mounted upon the machine table 5 on to the forks 8 of a conveyor 9 a pivoted guard 11 is provided to prevent access to the region of the trapdoor whilst the machine is in operation. The guard, which is shown in the open or raised position, is secured to a shaft 12 which operates through a crank arm 14 and a rod 15 a locking lever 17, the end 17a of which engages and prevents actuation of the machine starting lever 22. When the guard is closed the end of lever 17 moves down to allow the starting lever to be moved to start the machine, the guard then being locked in its closed position by the lever 22 engaging along the top of lever 17. |
