[Class 55 (i)] A water-gas generator having a steel shell 1 with a fire-brick lining 2 has a grate 4 with a steel base ring 6 supporting a central mild steel or firebrick pier structure in the form of a Field tube 7 closed at its upper end and provided at its lower end with apertures 8. A co-axial inner duct 9 extends below the grate 4 as a convergent outlet 10. Both the air blast and steam enters for an up-run through a conduit 11 and are preheated by passage through ducts 7, 9 before admittance to the fuel bed; water-gas is taken off from an outlet 22. Steam for a down-run is admitted through an inlet 25 and gas withdrawn through a take off 23. Oil from a tank 14 may be injected into the steam for the up-run by means of a steam-ejector 16.</p> |
