Producing an organism-specifically hybridizable nucleic acid comprises constructing a genetic fingerprint from genomic information of an organism to obtain a pattern of amplification products, isolating and sequencing an amplification product, selecting a segment of the resulting sequence suitable for producing an organism-specifically hybridizable nucleic acid and producing a nucleic acid having the selected segment. Independent claims are also included for: (1) nucleic acid having one of SEQ ID NO:5 to SEQ ID NO:15 (defined primer sequences given in the specification); (2) use of a nucleic acid comprising a nucleotide sequence between two elements of the genetic information of an organism to produce an organism-specifically hybridizable nucleic acid, where the elements are satellite DNA sequences, viral genomic sequences, transposon sequences and/or repetetive telomere/centromere sequences; (3) nucleic acid having one of SEQ ID NO:1 to SEQ ID NO:4 (defined plant pathogen genomic sequences given in the specification); (4) detecting an organism by isolating nucleic acids from a biological sample, subjecting the nucleic acids to PCR using an organism-specifically hybridizable nucleic acid as above as a primer, and determining if amplification has occurred. |
