601,946. Rope attachments. AYRES, W. W. May 9, 1946, No. 14045. [Class 109] [Also in Group XV] A fitting for attaching the end of a rope to a member, relatively to which the rope is to be rotated, comprises a clamping member rotatable therewithin and dimensioned to fit over the end of the rope, a clamping washer, and means for clamping the frayed end of the rope between the clamping member and the washer. In the form shown, applied to a skipping rope handle, the clamping member consists of a flange 6 having a sleeve 5 passing over the rope, the frayed ends of which are splayed over the flange, covered by a clamping washer 7, the parts being clamped together by a screw 8 inserted through a hole in the washer and screwed axially into the rope. The flange 6 seats on a shoulder 4 provided at the junction of smaller and larger diameter parts of a bore 3 in the knob portion 1 of the skipping rope handle which latter is completed by a handgrip 2 frictionally fitted into the bore 3. The smaller diameter part of the bore is provided with a flanged lining 9, and the handgrip 2 with a metal stud 11 to prevent wear from the screw head 8. The inner face of the flange 6 and the washer 7 may be roughened or provided with annular grooves to improve the gripping surface. The clamping member may comprise a washer without a sleeve. In a modification, wherein the clamping member comprises a flanged sleeve, the flange and sleeve are separate elements, the sleeve having lugs thereon for engagement with slots in the flange to prevent relative rotation therebetween. |
