发明名称 RIBBON FIBER COMPOSED OF DOWNSIZED SINGLE-MODE FIBERS
摘要 Disclosed is ribbon optical fiber for increasing a transmission capacity per unit area which can be applied to a location where optical transmission in large quantities is required such as a data center. The most significant feature of the present invention is a small size of optical fiber composing the ribbon optical fiber in comparison to conventional optical fiber. When compared to the conventional optical fiber, a cross sectional area can be reduced by 40% or more to minimize allocation of additional space incurring high costs and increase a transmission capacity of an optical transmission network. Also, according to the present invention, the size-reduced optical fiber has optical transmission characteristics and mechanical reliability similar to those of the conventional optical fiber and has excellent compatibility since the size-reduced optical fiber and the conventional optical fiber can be easily connected to each other. Specifically, characteristics of a variety of optical fiber is designed to be suitable for an optical communication network by using a depressed cladding index profile which is relative simply manufactured and optimizing numbers. Therefore, the transmission capacity can be increased while using various devices and optical elements used in an existing optical communication network, which can be an economic plan for expanding a next generation optical network.
