602,081. Motor vehicle steering gear. VAUXHALL MOTORS, Ltd., and WESTCOTT, F. Dec. 17, 1945, No. 34128. [Class 79 (v)] [Also in Group XXV] A motor-vehicle steering-linkage for an independent suspension comprises a steering arm 7 for each wheel 6, connected by a pivotal joint 8 to a tie rod 9 which is connected to a track rod 10 through a universal joint 11. The track rod is carried jointly by an idler arm 12 pivoted on the frame and by a steering arm 13 actuated by the steering gear 14 fixed on the frame. The joints 8 (see Group XXV) are so constructed that relative movement between each tie rod and its associated steering arm can take place only about two axes, i.e. about a horizontal axis substantially parallel to the plane of the wheel for deflections of the latter on the road, and about a vertical axis for steering movements. |
