A movable intermediate controller connects a movable traffic signal (e.g. a portable or temporary pedestrian or traffic light) to an Urban Traffic Control (UTC) system. A central controller of the UTC system generates control signals. The portable intermediate controller receives the control signals from an outstation (OTU) of the UTC control system and processes them so as to generate timing signals which it transmits to the movable traffic signal. The intermediate controller may be a stand-alone unit (Fig.4) or may form part of the movable traffic signal (Figs.5-6) and may be hardwired to an output of the OTU or may connect to it wirelessly. The traffic signal may thus control traffic at a road junction on a temporary basis as a part of a UTC traffic signal network. |
