Collision and/or passenger protection system for a motor vehicle

The system has collision sensors (S2, S3) for measuring acceleration values of a motor vehicle (1) for collision detection. A classifier generates an ignition signal with an uncertain message dependent on a characteristic signal formed by an output signal of one of the collision sensors. Another classifier generates another ignition signal with the uncertain message dependent on another characteristic signal formed by the output signals of the collision sensors. An airbag and a belt pretensioner are activatable by the ignition signal. An independent claim is also included for a method for operating a collision- or personal security system for a motor vehicle.
