Rails 22 form an orthogonal grid above an array of stacked containers 10. Robots 30 have two sets of wheels, one set engagable with an adjacent parallel pair of tracks 22a and the other set engagable with a perpendicular adjacent parallel pair of tracks 22b. The wheels are independently movable to allow only one set to engage their track and independently driven enabling the robot to move anywhere on the grid. There is a gas heater or chiller and a fan to circulate the air around the containers and a plenum. Ideally the plenum has an opening adjacent the stacks and a reservoir of air can be formed above the stacks before being circulated around them by the fans. The gas can be air. Raising the set of wheels could disengage them from their track 22. The containers can have vent holes to allow gas to circulate around and through them. The gas can pass through ducts 40 in the walls of the grid. The gas can be controllable to a precision of 2.5 degrees C in the range -30 to +30 degrees C. Plants or other living organisms could grow in the containers. |
