A sliding bearing includes a metallic substrate 102, a first electrically insulating layer 106A on the metallic substrate; and an electrical component 108 on the first electrically insulating layer. The electrical component may be a resistor, thermocouple, continuity monitoring element, dielectric material, capacitor, pressure sensor, strain sensor, semiconductor or transistor. A second electrically insulating layer 106B may be overlaid over the component, which may be caused to be worn away during the life of the bearing. An array of axially spaced components may be used, that may be configured to be exposed by different levels of wear. The insulating layer may be plastic-polymer based. The sliding bearing may comprise a bearing shell, thrust washer, bearing bush or a bearing shell flange. A monitoring system 110 and method of manufacturing a sliding bearing are also provided. |
