The present invention provides a material transfer apparatus to correctly calculate the flow of a transferred material even in a batch process and a control method thereof. A material transfer apparatus transferring work in process generated from at least one first process to a second process comprises: a first storage unit storing the work in process; a unitizing unit unitizing the stored work in process according to a predetermined batch capacity; a second storage unit storing the unitized work in process; a transfer unit transferring the unitized work in process to the second process; and a control unit controlling the unitizing unit to unitize the work in process stored in the first storage unit according to a batch capacity of the second process and controlling the transfer unit to transfer the work in process stored in the second storage unit to the second process based on a condition of the second process. The control unit calculates the flow quantity of the work in process transferred between the first and second processes based on the remaining quantity of the work in process stored in the first and second storage units, an accumulation quantity of work in process inputted to a first storage from the first process, and an accumulation quantity of the work in process transferred to the second process from the second storage unit. |
