A flow enhancement device for a subsea turbine support structure with a downstream turbine comprises a fairing 10 and / or a pair of vanes 11 mounted about the support structure 1. This reduces tower shadow, thereby reducing cyclic variation in flow velocity experienced by the turbine and improving fatigue life. The device may be used to improve flow conditions for a fixed (non-yawing) tidal turbine, which operates half of the time in downstream mode. A plurality of pairs of vanes may be installed in series (figure 4a) or with a secondary pair of vanes to assist mixing near the trailing edge of the fairing 10. |
