Improvements in devices for guiding threads or filaments

In a continuous process for the manufacture of artificial threads in which the thread advances in helical loops along a pair of mutually inclined rollers 6, 7 positively driven at the same angular speed whilst undergoing coagulation and other stages in manufacture, the threads are given an initial stretch before coagulation is complete by providing a step 5 at the forward end of roller 6 which first receives the thread from the coagulation bath 2, the step being of smaller diameter than the second roller 7. The amount of stretch applied is substantially equal to the natural extension of the thread when allowed to coagulate under tension. Instead of a single step 5, a plurality of steps may be provided, or the forward end of the first roller may be conical.
