609,067. Coiling extruded rubber tubes &c. SPENCER MOULTON & CO, Ltd., G., HELPS, H., CHRYSTAL, J. M., and SHAW & CO., Ltd., F. March 5, 1946, No. 6809. [Class 87(ii)] A machine for coiling an extruded rubber tube or strip in a tray comprises a tray support a which is revolved by a friction wheel p engaging with its underside, the support being fixed on a shaft b journalled in a carriage c which is moved by a traversing motion driven by the shaft, so that although the rate of rotation of the support varies according to the extent of traverse of said carriage, yet the surface speed is constant. The tray support moves to the left at a diminishing speed. The shaft drives the traversing motion through bevels d, e, a shaft f, change-speed gears g, h, i, and a screwed shaft j which engages with a half-nut fixed on a lever m which is pivotally mounted in a bracket on the underside of the carriage. The nut is normally kept in engagement with the shaft j by a spring o. but by lowering the lever m the traversing movement of the carriage is stopped and the carriage can then be reset. The carriage slides in V-grooves in the frame of the machine. |
