A padlock with shackle (e.g. flexible) and locking mechanism, the latter having a controller, sensors, and battery 4 (e.g. one rechargeable and one backup battery); the sensors including an accelerometer, gyroscope, and magnetometer (or e.g. GPS, thermal sensor, microphone, camera); the controller programmed to identify tampering based on sensor feedback and adapted to wirelessly send an alert signal (e.g. audible alarm, text message, e-mail) when tampering is detected. The padlock may be remotely locked or unlocked. The controller may include one or more antennae, each located e.g. inside the padlock body 112. Each antenna may have a SIM card for satellite communication. The controller may be active and dormant, disabling wireless features during standby to preserve battery. The active state may be entered upon detection of tampering, and the dormant state upon a period of no tampering. The padlock may have a keyhole or keypad 12. The controller may regularly transmit status reports. The padlock allows geo-fencing. |
