609,880. Controlling variable-speed gearing. BOYDELL & CO., Ltd., E., and COLDWELL, J. D. March 22, 1946, No. 8991. [Class 80 (ii)] In a control mechanism for distant actuation of a gear lever a requiring to be moved in two directions, a shaft e is slidably and rotatably mounted in a tube c carried by brackets d, and has secured to its ends an actuating lever f connected to the gear lever a and a short arm lever h connected to a hand lever j. The latter is pivoted on a pin k within a slot i in the lever h, the lower end of the lever j being engaged in a vertical slot in a guide plate m. A counter-balance weight n is preferably fitted to the hand lever j. Movement of the hand lever in a vertical plane rotates the shaft e and moves the gear lever a backwards or forwards; lateral movement of the hand lever causes corresponding movement of the gear lever a.
