PURPOSE:To perform an automatic speed control run smoothly along with a stream of automobiles by providing a means which displays a picture photographed by a photographing means on a display means in such a manner that an index refered to a preceding automobile is folded thereon. CONSTITUTION:Photographing means 10-17, CPU1 take a picture in front of an automobile, and a distance computing means CPU2 computes a distance La from a preceding automobile in its running lane through the photographed picture. The photographed picture on which an index AR0 refered to the preceding automobile with a distance computed by the distance computing means CPU2 is folded is displayed on a display means CRT1. If an input means SW7 indicates automobile-to-automobile distance control when the preceding automobile and the index AR0 are displayed on the display means CRT1, an automobile-to-automobile distance control means CPU2 starts automobile-to- automobile distance control to decide either to accelerate or to decelerate motor accelerating/decelerating means PCV, VPM mounted on the automobile depending on a distance La, longer or shorter, respectively. That means an automobile-to-automobile distance adjusting run to follow the preceding automobile displayed on the display means CRT1 with the index AR0 added thereto.
