Fire protection system in timber frame construction

System and method for fire protection and extinguishing a fire on a timber frame building construction site 10. The timber frames 18 are constructed with timber which has been treated with a fire retardant in combination with a colorant. Fire crews can identify the timber as having been treated with a fire retardant so that they may make a decision on whether or not they can effectively fight a fire without putting their team at unnecessary risk. Embodiments include use on open or closed timber framed panels, using various colours to indicate differing burn rates and timber frames being treated with a water repellent are also described.
