PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a highly reliable photoresponsive chiral compound capable of stably controlling a selective reflection wavelength after/before photoirradiation, a liquid crystal composition, and a photoresponsive liquid crystal element.SOLUTION: A photoresponsive chiral compound is a cyclic compound represented by chemical formula (1). The photosensitive chiral compound is converted into a tricyclic compound when intramolecular dimerization is induced by irradiation with active rays. A photoresponsive liquid crystal element is equipped with a cholesteric liquid crystal layer. The cholesteric liquid crystal layer includes the photoresponsive chiral compound and a liquid crystalline compound capable of developing a cholesteric liquid crystal phase by addition of the photoresponsive chiral compound. |
