[Class 48] A sheering device comprises a buoyant body 1 having vertically and laterally acting stabilizing means 7, 8 at its rear end, and a vane 5 so weighted and depending from the body that the device moves laterally and downwardly when towed. The vane may be curved or planar, and is weighted by a reinforcing strip 6 so as to be inclined to both the horizontal and vertical planes which pass through the longitudinal axis of the body when the device is floating freely. The device is towed from an eye 9 which may be adjustable. The body is of hollow metal filled with air under pressure by means of a non-return valve 2. Alternatively the body is filled with cork or kapok or constructed from a buoyant material.</p> |
