[Class 136 (ii)] [Also in Group XXX] A winch for manual and for power operation has a doubleended shaft adapted at each end 1 to receive a removable handle 2, the ends being differently formed with respect to the driving member of a portable motor in such manner that, whereas the handles can be fitted to both ends, the driving member can be fitted to one end only. As shown, the two ends of the same operating shaft are each squared at 1 to take the same or similar handles 2. We wish to use, as an alternative mode of drive, an electric or pneumatic drill motor, the shaft 7 of which is adapted by the hollow box member 5 to fit over and drive the squared end 1 of the winch. To this end on one squared end only of the winch shaft is welded stud 3. This permits the use of handle 2 since a passage 4 is drilled in the handle through which the stud 3 may pass, but prevents the use of the drill motor because the hollow box member cannot engage with the squared end. Alternatively, the squared end may be slotted, or cut away at one or more of its corners, and the box member correspondingly shaped to fit. |
