[Class 40 (v)] In a folding dial tuning indicator for a radio receiver or similar apparatus, of the kind in which the transparent dial and a pointer which is movable along a guide path constitute a structural assembly, the guide path for the pointer consists of a member, for instance of moulded material, which is provided along the bottom edge of the dial and is journalled at the ends to provide the axis of rotation thereof. As shown, the bottom end of the dial 1 is secured by means of screws 7 in a member 5 consisting of two parts 5<1>, 5<11>. The member 5 is partly sunk in a slot in the top 29 of the cabinet and is journalled at the ends in bearings 9, a guide shoe 11 carrying a pointer 3 being movable along the part 5<11>. A tag 20 on the guide shoe co-operates with a spring 22 in the groove 15 to prevent play and keep the pointer upright and pressed against the dial. The guide shoe carries a hinged metal clasp 21 to which is attached a metal strip 25 secured to the driving cord 27. In this way the dial may be tilted without the cord being subject to large displacements normal to its direction. The member 5 contains cavities at various points for the accommodation of dial lamps, and in order that the heat radiated may be more evenly distributed, trough-shaped metal plates around the lamps and ventilation openings may be provided. Spring-loaded braking caps may be secured at the ends of the member 5, which. press against the bearings 9 to maintain the dial in any desired position. In an alternative construction, Figs. 3, 4 and 5 (not shown), the member 5 is made in one piece and the dial assembly is retained in position by means of springs. One of the dial lights also illuminates a rotatable drum which serves as a waveband indicator and is coupled to the waveband switch. |
