Usage of beacon for location based security

A method for location based security in a system in an authorized communication area. The server 102 confirms a location of a mobile device 100 by transmitting a data sequence (e.g. random or pseudorandom) to the mobile device 100 using a short range transmitter 402 (e.g. ultrasonic, infrared or radio), receiving from the mobile device 100 the transmitted data sequence and confirming whether the data sequence received from the mobile device 100 matches the data sequence transmitted from the short range transmitter 402. The invention also includes a method and a server additionally adapted to transfer cryptographic keys to authorized devices, the keys being configured to authorize secure network communication for the devices.
