Modular RF matrix switch

An RF matrix switch 10 (for e.g. satellite communication) having a chassis 12 that has a first set of card slots 13 at selected locations on the chassis and a second set of card slots 15 at different locations on the chassis as well as input cards 14 and output cards 16. The input cards 14, the output cards 16, the first set of card slots 13 and the second set of card slots 15 are all configured so that the input cards 14 and the output cards 16 fit into all of these slots. The switch 10 also has middle card slots 19 and middle cards 18 that may be reconfigured or replaced. The RF matrix switch 10 may also have a control unit and power control switch connected to each amplifier that turns the amplifier off when the amplifier is not being used.
