Method for controlling superheat of the refrigerant leaving a refrigerant outlet (40) of an evaporator ( 12) of a refrigeration circuit (2), wherein the refrigerant is heated within the evaporator ( 12) against a secondary medium, comprising the following steps: (a) measuring system parameters which are indicative for the actual operating condition within the evaporator ( 12); (b) determining a temperature difference value (?T) indicative for the temperature difference between the refrigerant without superheat and the secondary medium within the evaporator ( 12) based on such measured parameters; (c) calculating the relative target superheat (?Ttsh) as a fraction of the temperature difference value (?T); and (d) controlling the system based on the calculated relative target superheat (?tt.
