[Class 38 (v)] A spring-toggle switch within the detachable handle 5 of an electric tool is operated by a trigger 23 which slides in guides 24, 25 in a wall 10 of the handle. The slotted base 36 of the trigger slides between the insulating top cover 32 of the switch casing 27 and a plate 43 fixed in spaced relationship to the cover 32 by means of screws 44, 45 and washers 39. An operating knob 40 riveted to the trigger base 36 engages with the spring toggle 42 of the switch. To switch "on," the trigger is pressed in against the tension of a spring 48 which is fixed between the upturned ends 37, 47 of the trigger base and fixed plate 43. The trigger may be held in this position by depressing a spring-loaded rod 49 so as to engage its flanged head 56 in a hole 57 in the trigger base. The screw 44 engages a hexagon-nut 17 engaging a hole 16 in a part 15 of the wall 10, a screw 18 also engaging the nut 17 to clamp the switch casing 27, wall 10, and handle 5 together as a unit which is secured to the body 6 of the tool by screws 19.
