发明名称 Wrapping machine and method of wrapping
摘要 619,113. Wrapping-up. WINGFOOT CORPORATION. Nov. 21, 1946, No. 34564. Convention date April 20. [Class 94 (i)] A method of wrapping articles comprises placing the articles to be wrapped between layers of heated heat-sealable material at a temperature to effect sealing of the layers and pressing the material about the articles between two opposed soft material surfaces arranged close to each other for pressing engagement with the articles throughout substantial areas said surfaces being comformable to irregularities of articles placed therebetween. Each of the said soft material surfaces may be made discontinuous by dividing it along lines extending at a substantial angle to the operating surfaces. In the form shown, a wrapping machine includes a pair of belts having opposed pressing areas of substantial size, the surfaces of the belts being of radially extending layers of sponge rubber. Said belts are carried by chains 10 and 16, engaging sprockets 8, 9 and 14, 15 the adjacent lengths travelling in the same direction. The sprocket 9 on the shaft 7 is driven by the sprocket 11 and chain 5 from the gear reduction mechanism 4 and motor 3 imparting motion to the sprocket 8 on shaft 6 carrying sprocket 20 which drives a chain 17 and sprocket 21 on shaft 13 carrying sprocket 14 whence the upper belt is moved. Overlapping layers 35 and 36 of heatsealable wrapping material, e.g., rubber hydrochloride film, is fed between said belts in such a manner as to cause the layers to be somewhat divergent prior to being fed between said belts to permit the consecutive insertion of articles 45 therebetween. The wrapping material is heated by rollers 37, 38 rotated by a chain and sprocket from the shafts 13 and 6, and driven at a surface speed slightly greater than the surface speed of the belts at the point where they come into contact. The shafts 13 and 6 have friction clutches 43, a small amount of drag on the rollers 37 and 38 causing the clutches to slip. Other friction means may however be provided. The means for supporting the belt comprises a series of interconnected saddle members composed of two lines of flared plates 27, oppositely joined by rods which may be rotated at the base. Adjacent plates 27 overlap to form a continuous lateral support for said belt and are supported by pins mounted on projections carried by alternate links in the chains 10 and 16. Guides 29 for the lower chain and 30 for the upper chain prevent any sagging of the belt. Rollers 32 press the belts against the pins 28 in the non-working portions of travel.
