A process for preparing a sulfonated derivative comprising a metathesis of an unsaturated glyceride-containing composition in the presence of the metathesis catalyst obtaining one or more alpha-olefins, the metathesis of one or more alpha-olefins in the presence of the metathesis catalyst obtaining a composition containing one or more internal olefins of the formula RRC=CRRwherein R, R, Rand Rare the same or different and are hydrogen or straight- or branched-chain, saturated hydrocarbyl groups and the total number of carbon atoms of R, R, Rand Ris 6 to 44, with the proviso that at least about 96 mole percent of Rand Rare straight- or branched-chain, saturated hydrocarbyl groups and at least about 96 mole percent of Rand Rare hydrogen, and sulfonating a composition comprising one of more internal olefins obtaining the sulfonated derivative. Further provided is a process for recovering oil from an oil-bearing formation comprising introducing into said formation an aqueous composition comprising at least one surfactant containing said sulfonated derivative. |
