PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an absorbent for oral administration that can adsorb tryptophan or indoxyl sulfate in large quantities under the presence of bile acid.SOLUTION: There is provided an absorbent for oral administration containing spherical active carbon having an average volume density of 0.4-0.6 g/mL, in which a pore volume with a pore diameter of 1.5-2.0 nm measured by an SF method by a nitrogen adsorption method satisfies the formula (1) y>6×10x-9×10x+0.0241 (1) [where y represents a pore volume (mL/g) with a pore diameter of 1.5-2.0 nm measured by the SF method by a nitrogen adsorption method, x represents a BET specific surface area (m/g)].SELECTED DRAWING: None
