PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of coping with a case where a density profile is changed with lapse of time and properly correcting periodical density fluctuations.SOLUTION: The image forming apparatus includes a density profile management part which manages the density profile indicating density fluctuations in a sub-scan direction by associating the phase of the density profile with the rotation position of a rotary body and a density correction part which performs density correction by correction data based on the density profile. The density profile management part forms a patch image for correction, when the rotation position of the rotary body corresponds to a specific phase in the density profile and a writing position to an image carrier at this time is a non-image region and corrects the density profile on the basis of the detection result of an image density detection part on the patch image for correction.
