PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent overflow of seawater from a water-intake tank by blocking an influx route of the seawater when a tidal level is increased due to onslaught of a tsunami so that a water level in the water-intake tank can be maintained at an appropriate level without involving operation of a worker even on the occurrence of a station blackout due to an onslaught of the tsunami, to enable a plant to restore a normal operation state once the tidal level is back to normal and to secure a drainage route of the seawater flowing into the water-intake tank, on the occurrence of an overtopping wave higher than a breakwater wall due to a successive increase in the tidal level, by opening the influx route of the seawater.SOLUTION: A water intake device comprises: a water intake tank 100; an inflow entrance 104 installed at a lower edge section of an outer wall of the water intake tank; an opening and closing wall 1 to open and close the inflow entrance; a float attached weight 2 which has a weight 16 and a float 18, formed into a container with an upper opening 11, installed on an upper surface of the weight; a connection member 3 which connects the opening and closing wall with the float attached weight; and a support member 4 which supports the connection member.
