摘要 [Problem] To provide: a method for melting a conductive metal in which little power is consumed and little heat is generated, maintenance is simplified, and the metal is not easily affected by heat; and a melting furnace. [Solution] A direct current is passed vertically through molten conductive metal accommodated in a melting chamber between a first electrode, which is provided in an exposed manner to the inner surface of the melting chamber in which the conductive metal is accommodated in a melting furnace main body, and a second electrode provided below the first electrode; a magnetic field is applied radially toward the center of the melting chamber from the exterior of the melting furnace or from the center of the melting chamber toward the exterior of the melting furnace; an electromagnetic force resulting from the intersection of the direct current and the magnetic field imparts a rotary force, which rotates around a vertical axis, on the molten metal in the melting chamber, and the molten metal is made to rotate by the rotary force, causing the molten metal to be discharged into a holding furnace having the melting chamber attached thereto from a discharge opening in a partition plate provided between the melting chamber and the holding furnace, and the molten metal within the holding furnace is suctioned from an inlet opening in the partition plate.
