BINDER AND AQUEOUS SOLUTION

The purpose of the present invention is to provide a binder which has good storage stability and is capable of exhibiting excellent binding force for glass fibers or powder glass (namely, capable of imparting a bound body of glass fibers or powder glass with good strength). A binder according to the present invention contains: a polymer having a hydroxyl group; and an ammonium salt of an inorganic acid. The polymer comprises a structural unit derived from a monomer that is represented by specific general formula (1) and a structural unit derived from a monomer having a carboxylic acid (salt) group. The content of the structural unit derived from a monomer represented by general formula (1) is from 5% by mole to 40% by mole relative to 100% by mole of structural units derived from all monomers; and the content of the structural unit derived from a monomer having a carboxylic acid (salt) group is from 60% by mole to 95% by mole relative to 100% by mole of structural units derived from all monomers. Not less than 2% by mole of the carboxylic acid (salt) groups contained in the polymer is neutralized by a volatile base and/or a non-volatile base. From 0% by mole to 35% by mole of the carboxylic acid (salt) groups contained in the polymer is neutralized by a non-volatile base; and from 0% by mole to 100% by mole of the carboxylic acid (salt) groups contained in the polymer is neutralized by a volatile base.
