[Class 146(iii)] A pencil of the type in which a releasable clutch is provided to hold the lead in writing position and to permit forward movement of the lead when it is released, is provided with a separable unit comprising a point section having a bore and a lead-gripping collet concealed and secured within the bore. The point section 9 which may be externally knurled is screwed to a lead tube 7 secured in a pencil casing 5 and carries a collet which holds a lead 13 in writing position. The collet has a flanged end 17, resilient arms 18 and an inclined surface 19 co-operating with a similar surface 14 in the point section 9. A shoulder 20 on the collet engages a shoulder 16 formed internally of the point section to secure the collet therein. In modifications the collet may be secured by a sleeve or a split ring inserted in the point section. |
