PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus capable of reducing waiting time until an image forming apparatus becomes usable by confirming intention of a user using the image forming apparatus in an early stage.SOLUTION: In at least a contact/separation direction of an image forming apparatus body 10, first detection areas 205a and 205b for detecting approach of a user are provided; and a second detection area 205c for detecting behavior of the user is provided in front of the first detection areas. The image forming apparatus compares a frequency of an output signal from a human body detection sensor 202 with a first threshold that is set to a value larger than a frequency of an output signal corresponding to the movement speed of a user in the first detection area 205b, when a comparison result indicates that the frequency of the output signal from the human body detection sensor is larger than the first threshold, determines that a part of a body of a user having entered the first detection area has entered the second detection area, and when a power supply mode is a second mode, switches to a first mode. |
