The purpose of the present invention is to provide a rectangular secondary battery with a simple structure from which electrical energy that has been stored within the battery after current isolation can be safely extracted. This rectangular secondary battery (C1) is a rectangular secondary battery having: an electrode group (3) that has a positive electrode foil exposed part (301c); a battery case (1) that accommodates the electrode group (3); an external terminal (8A) provided on a cover (6); and a collector terminal (4A) that makes a connection between the external terminal (8A) and the positive electrode foil exposed part (301c). The collector terminal (4A) has a current isolating means (101) that can isolate current passing between the external terminal (8A) and the positive electrode foil exposed part (301c). The external terminal (8A) has a connecting part (12A) that passes through the cover (6) and connects to the collector terminal (8A). The connecting part (12A) is provided with a through hole (201) that links the inside and outside of a battery container in a position facing the positive electrode foil exposed part (301c). |
