A process control system includes an Input/Output module configured to be connected to a field device which is installed in a plant in which an industrial process is controlled, and a controller. The I/O module autonomously transmits data received from the field device into a memory of the controller, which reads the data stored in the memory at a predetermined period. The I/O module performs a self diagnostic to determine its state. The I/O module may poll the field devices to get their data. |
