[Class 46] [Also in Group XVIII] Incrustation in boilers &c. is prevented by subjecting the boiler feedwater, or other liquid, to an alternating electromagnetic field in apparatus comprising a closed cylinder 2, preferably of non- magnetic material, which is provided with a water &c. inlet duct and outlet 1. 8 respectively and is fitted with an annular non - magnetic housing 3 which depends around the duct 1 to near the bottom of the cylinder 2 and locates a solenoid 4. The direction of flow of the water is indicated by the arrows 9.
