Data is received 310 for a plurality of objects of a model, typically a virtual reality model having virtual objects. The data comprises information about the dimensions and properties of the objects. Haptic instructions for a haptic output device are received 320 for producing 330 haptic output of the properties and haptic output for the objects is produced using the instructions. Also disclosed is an arrangement in which mappings are formed, between virtual object properties and target haptic outputs, in a haptic data structure (Fig. 3b) uses when a user interacts with the virtual objects.
